GHS in Indonesia

The GHS applicable regulations in Indonesia, Regulation Ministry of Industry No.87/M-IND/PER/9/2009 and Regulation Ministry of Trade No.44/M-DAG/PER/9/2009, which were issued on 24 September 2009, became effective on 24 March 2010. The No.87/M-IND/PER/9/2009 is revised as Ministry of Industry No.23/M-IND/PER/4/2013 based on 4th revised UN GHS on 12 April 2013. Decree of Director General of Agrochemical No. 21/IAK/PER/4/2010 concerns Technical Training of GHS implementation for Classification and labeling on Chemicals.

Labeling
The basic elements on labels are in accordance with UN GHS (Rev. 4).- Labels must be easily legible; easily seen; not easily damaged; not easily detached from packaging and not easily faded due to sunrays, air or other causes (article 5 of No.23/M-IND/PER/4/2013).
- The size of letters and pictograms is proportional;
- Producers of chemical substances are required to review labels in the event of any changes or at least every 5 years;
- Language on labels: The writing on the label must be in Bahasa Indonesian, which may be accompanied by an international language that is used as the official language of the UN.
SDS
- The required format and contents in Annex II of Ministry of Industry No.23/M-IND/PER/4/2013 are in accordance with Annex 4 of the 4th revised UN GHS.
- Producers of chemicals are required to review SDSs in the event of any changes or at least every 5 years;
- Language on SDS: The writing on the SDS must be in Bahasa Indonesian, which may be accompanied by an international language that is used as the official language of the UN.
