NHPFC approves 2 new food additives

14 August 2014, The National Health and Family Planning Commission of People’s Republic of China (NHFPC) has published a Notice (NHFPC Notice number 17 of 2014) to approve 2 new food additives and enlarge the application scope of 2 existing food additives.
The 2 new food additives are:
- Tetrapotassium pyrophosphate. It can be used in 5 categories of food with dosage limits
- Rosemary Extract (supercritical CO2 extraction). It can be used in 14 categories of food with dosage limits

The 2 existing food additives with extended uses are:
- Hydroxypropyl distarch phosphate, which could be used as thickener in cream (Category No. 01.05.01) without dosage limits additionally.
- Sodium stearoyl lactylate, which could be used as stabilizer or emulsifier in ice cream (Category No. 03.01) additionally and the dosage should not more than 2.0 g/kg.
