Environmental Tests of Pesticide Registration will Face New Requirements

From 1 Jan. 2015, new requirements for environmental tests of pesticide registration will be implemented in China, according to the Institute for the Control of Agrochemicals, Ministry of Agriculture (ICAMA). The new requirements mainly include the following three aspects:

  1. Environmental tests should be carried out in strict accordance with the requirements of GB/T 31270-2014 (Test Guidelines on Environmental Safety Assessment for Chemical Pesticides) and NY/T 1906-2010 (Good laboratory practice for pesticide environmental testing). If existing Guidelines can not fulfill the experimental requirements, relevant guidelines of OECD can be used as a reference, or design a testing scheme, which must be accepted and confirmed by the principal.
  2. Standardize the handling of abnormal data appeared in environmental tests. For the abnormal data, labs should repeat experiments and the results can not be accepted until similar results are reproduced at least 3 times. The causes of all abnormal data shall be analyzed objectively in the report, and all the repeated experimental data should be included.
  3. Standardize the testing samples' storage time which should be longer than shelf life. Labs are obliged to provide remaining samples when a verification test is necessary within the samples’ shelf life.

In addition, some testing methods and conditions related to environmental tests are also defined and unified in the new requirements.
