Infant formula plays an important role in feeding infants. Because of the large number of Chinese population, Chinese infant formula industry has its natural advantage. In recent years, the annual Chinese market of infant formula reaches 100 billion RMB with 10% increase rate. Also, positive factors like the two-child policy make the infant formula industry promising. In addition, many Chinese consumers tend to choose imported infant formula, which results in more and more foreign infant formula companies showing their interest in Chinese market. However, Chinese government pays high attention to the quality of infant formula, thus government set strict requirements and regulations on the infant formula registration.

In China, Foods for Special Medical Purpose (FSMP) is a newly developing type of special food which is designed for patients. Though FSMP has not been widely used for clinic at present, its future market potential is promising. According to Food Safety law of the people’s republic of China (2015 version), before entering to the Chinese market, FSMP needs to get registered with Chinese authority SAMR (former CFDA). The latest updates regarding the impending implementation of the new chemical management system – Technical Regulation 041/2017 (Eurasia REACH) are also shared. The deadline for submission into the inventory of existing chemicals is currently May 2020 after which new chemical registration will be required.
